Marzipan is a confection made of ground almonds and sugar.
It also constitutes the majority of the mass of Earth's moon.
The [Options] menu in the upper-right corner of the site is where all of the settings are.
Some settings can only be changed from the board pages (index, catalog, thread), not the homepage and other miscellaneous pages like this one.
The catalog page shows all of a board's threads on one page. There are links to it at the top and bottom of every index and thread page.
To post in a thread, you need to go to that thread's page. From the board index, you can do so by clicking the [Reply] button on the thread's original post, or by clicking the post number of any of its replies. Once you're on the thread's page, you can post using the form at the top of the page.
You can also use the quick editor, which should automatically appear if you click a post number, or if you scroll down while editing a post. Some features are only available in the full editor at the top of the page.
You can link to another post on the same board with by typing >> followed by the post number.
For example, to link to post 12345:
>>12345
If you click a post's number while viewing a thread, it'll automatically type it for you in the post form.
You can also link to other boards, or posts on those boards, by typing >>> followed by the board and post number.
For example:
>>>/meta/
>>>/meta/12345
You can make a new thread by using the form at the top of either a board's index page or its catalog page.
Marzichan supports some basic Markdown-inspired text formatting:
>quote text | >quote text |
*italics* | italics |
**bold** | bold |
__underline__ | underline |
~~strikethrough~~ | |
||spoiler|| | spoiler |
##header## | header |
https://example.com | https://example.com |
some ``inline code`` here | some inline code here |
```multiline code``` | multiline |
Only ```multiline code tags``` can contain line breaks. Be careful with spoilers, since that means you need to wrap each line separately!
##Header tags## must be on their own line.
You can choose between a file upload, an embed, or an original drawing via the oekaki applet.
Uploads 10MB or smaller of these types are currently allowed:
To embed something, just paste a link to the content you want to embed in the "Embed" field when posting. Embeds from the following sites are supported:
Marzichan runs some basic checks to prevent spam. Your post may be automatically rejected if:
All of these should resolve if you wait and trying again in, at most, a few minutes.
If you're still having trouble posting, you can make a post on /meta/ with information about your problem.
A tripcode is a special identifier, generated by hashing a password that the user enters along with their name. Because it is computationally expensive to reverse this process, the resulting tripcode on your post can be used to uniquely identify you, since only someone with the original password (or a nice GPU and plenty of patience) can make a post with the same tripcode.
You can use a tripcode by adding adding # or ## to the end of your post's name field, followed immediately by whatever password you want to use to generate the tripcode, like so:
My Name#mypassword
My Name##mystrongerpassword
Using just one # will generate an unsalted tripcode, which is less secure, but can be used on other sites as well.
If you don't need that specific feature, then it's best to use ## to generate a salted hash.
Tripcodes are displayed publicly and be cracked by anyone given enough time, so you should NEVER use a “real” password that you use for other accounts and services. Anonymity is encouraged on Marzichan for the sense of community it creates, so you should avoid using a tripcode without a good reason.
Checking the box in the upper-left corner of a post will open the post actions form, where you can either report a post or delete it. If you'd like to act on multiple posts at once, you can select them all and then use the form at the bottom of the page.
To delete a post or its file, you'll need the password you used when you made the post (if you're using the same device, it should be saved and automatically filled in for you). You can also choose to delete just the file instead of the whole post.
If you're reporting a post, make sure to fill out the reason field. You can only report up to 3 posts at once.
In order to discourage community fragmentation and keep the site from feeling barren, Marzichan is starting with just two boards: a general/random board (/plaza/) and a board for discussing the site itself (/meta/). If the site gets enough activity, it could expand to include more boards.
If a given topic gets enough posts that you think it would be a good candidate for its own board, or if you have another reason you think a new board would be beneficial, you’re welcome to make a suggestion thread on /meta/.
No problem! Make a post on /meta/ and we'll try and help out.
