I was very blessed this Sunday morning to find a bunch of cicadas in my back yard - molting cicadas at that! A lot of them were camera shy; they'd turn away when the phone came too close. They were pretty chill overall, as cicadas are.

woah, cool! I don't know if I've ever seen live cicadas up close. are you going to come back later and look for molted shells?
>>2869
Hell yeah, I really wanna see an emergence in person at some point, cicadas are so cool

I don't collect like that, but there were more molts out than cicadas, and I took pictures of those too.

I fucking love this bug

It's obtained in a very unique way. I like cicadas and have probably seen more molted shells than actual ones, so it's a cool concept too. I always thought cicada shells looked more evil than their adult form, which is actually cute.

Here's a hopper for you guys. (A cricket, I think?)

did you know that many types of moth don't eat at all as adults? they eat lots of food as a catepillar, and then depend on that stored energy for their entire lifespan as an adult moth, which is just a couple weeks. this is also the case for the rosy maple moth (picrel)

meow
some bugs are cool but KILL all fruitflies
>>5053
Fruitflies are a product of Beelzebub himself. I can't name a more contemptible insect, aside from mosquitos.
>>5054
Honestly, I think I've been bitten by only a couple skeeters all summer. I leave a half-finished can full of something with sweetener in it overnight once and I'll be seeing little fruit fly fuckers for at least the next week.

Last spring I, met a mantis, N'unlike what the rumors say 'bout 'em, it was not prayin...
I saw it, and IT? saw ME see it...
I went up to it and said;
"...what areya doin up here lil guy?
reachin for the skies..? heh..."
And IT looked me back, dead in my eye...
As if to say; "areth thou not doing the same?"
I didn't like that, not one bit. So I went up to it, and whispered;
"You're in the reign of the giants now. What if I EAT you? Worse yet, whats'bout if I let this growling feline beast eat you? You think god would stop us?"
Then it froze... for about ninety to ninety five seconds... Then it started twitching, like it was warming up before a fight...
Kept walking north right past me and the beast, then... it kept climbin.
I thought to myself "good luck lil mantis... may the gods help ye on your journey to stars..."
Unless the chihuahua upstairs ate it before that? Though I'm not supposed to share that as part of the fable- Ah!
