hmm, I don't think vichan has a feature for this, so while the idea isn't bad, it would take a while to implement. one of the draws of an imageboard is letting people post instantly with no barriers, so I'd like to avoid it if it's not totally necessary. I guess the feature could allow whitelisting IPs, so that ideally a user would only have to get manual approval once.

the CSAM spam isn't normally this bad - the past 2 or 3 days it's been like 5 posts a day, which is a lot. hopefully it'll die down, but if it doesn't, maybe I'll start exploring our options.

i think a better option than this would just be to 'hire' a couple mods or something so that they can still get taken down even if the admin isnt around

looks like it's probably a custom bit of dev they did, or they're using some fork of vichan. at least on the version I'm running, I don't see it anywhere, and the repo has an open issue for almost this exact same feature:

I agree that getting an additional mod or two is probably the first step. I'm a little bit hesitant to give mod out to total strangers just yet, but I'll make sure I have permissions/roles set up to make it easy when the time comes. I would've asked some friends but I'm guessing most of them wouldn't be thrilled about encountering CSAM multiple times a day, lol

in the immediate meantime, I'll try to check the site more often. evidently every 1-2 hours is a bit too infrequent for now

I figure in this early stage, with so few users, it's enough to give gentle reminders and shy away from overly strict enforcement when it comes to the "posting guidelines", as opposed to the more strict "rules" I have laid out on the rules page.

if I saw a user doing it repeatedly, or if it ever became more than a rare oddity, I would get stricter about it for sure. I just don't want to risk being overly harsh on a wandering user who might legitimately have no bad intentions.

anyway, the people who are here so far certainly don't seem to like them either, so I'll take a step towards enforcement and delete the file for this thread. (›ω・)b
