I've been seeing these videos pop up in my feed for a few days now, usually all with the same jokes of bashing millennials and overpriced food. Is this an actual trend in restaurants or is it something that MOPs have made up to satisfy their tribalistic hatred of others? Seriously, look at the comments of this video and others like it. They're all usually the same, long, overspecific jokes each time. I don't get it.

I think it's an exaggeration of a phenomenon that did actually exist to some extent around a decade ago, that sort of stereotypically millennial hipster restaurant.

it feels a little odd to rail against now, so many years later. some of the observations are amusing in their specificity (for example, the use of labels like "handhelds" and "sharables" on the menu), but generally I don't think it's deserving of vitriol

I think so as well. It always makes me upset when I see it because it reminds me of what the internet has become: a big melting pot of outrage and noise. People don't want to connect and understand anymore, only ridicule and demonize. Maybe mob mentality is the only way they *can* connect with others due to social conditioning. I dunno, I miss the old internet where everything was quieter and secularized.

I've seen 'em too. I suspect it's the eternal Gen X-er, attempting to push the idea of millennials as "the soyjak", to divert attention from the fact that the original soyjak was based off Gen X soyboys like Chuck Wendig.

It's not just on youtube, that fucking card game did it too. There's a concerted effort to cement the Soy Wojak as the "Offficial Millenial Image".

 No.2874

soyjak is gen x..... this is blowing my mind....

most are millennials though I thought...

Hi Marzichan, I used to be a drunk but now I'm not. Figuring out how to deal with the stuff I was blocking out keeps me busy, but I'm feeling pretty solid about being able to keep this up. I'm finding healthier ways of coping with things.

Normally I'd be drunk and sadposting at night, but now I'm sober and normalposting. How're y'all?

that's awesome, anon! hope it's going well. I hear the first one's usually the hardest, but you owe it to yourself to get one out into the world, even if it's flawed. at the very least, it proves to yourself in a visceral way that you can make something if you simply persist

It's kinda crazy how whenever I feel depressed, I have a psychological need to drink alcohol. And I've never even abused alcohol. Is this just a genetic thing? Was I destined to be a drunk? Who knows.

Anyone else following the election?
Black smoke today, but it was only 1 round of voting. Tomorrow it will be 2 ballots in the morning and 2 in the afternoon, so it may be over as early as tomorrow or the day after.

Ahaha, funny, we recently got a cat that's touch-averse too. She usually swipes or lightly bites you if you pet her for more than a few seconds... She really likes this one fuzzy blanket that we have and she loves to make biscuits on it. She was cuddling with me a lot this morning actually, with her sleeping on my arm. It felt nice

But that being said, it's pretty frustrating at times. It sucks that I can't cuddle with my animals at a moment's notice. I was able to do it with my late dog despite him being a very grumpy old man.

today, I saw a beetle on top of my flour container.
it wasn't a rice weevil; it was round like a stereotypical scarab. it wasn't alive, either. it was lying on its back, legs ceilingward and motionless.

could it smell the grain through the polypropylene? or did it see the dusty white stuff and simply know it must be good eating? how many times did it circle the lid before it simply stopped moving? did it never have the impulse to move somewhere else, to make an attempt on any of the less-guarded cupboard treasures?

I didn't come away from that blogpost with a takeaway on gatekeeping, so I don't find the >>2641 comic better or more concise.
The defense of Evil here is more focused on assuring the BENEFITS of a larger audience (money and sexual access to Chapman. Culty lol) accrue towards the rightful "geeks" who laid the foundations, and away from the mercenary "sociopaths" simply around to reap social capital.

Yes, there is that tangent about "optimal ratios" of entryist versus core audience, but I took that as a grain of LessWrong-adjacent autism and glazed on by tbh. It mostly seems to strike this (sociopathic?) view of "MOPS" as, like, fertile soil or cattle. Vital to the overall success of a subculture, but needing to be corralled away from exploitation.

Also, quoting le /v/ comic
>The original game has largely become an excuse to flirt/smoke/drink or whatever the fuck
Admire the austere commitment to the Monkpill, but "Such is life." Moshikashite... You blew it? That was your ticket out of being a crotchety grognard, idiot!

 No.2724

>>2711 You are mistaking being a member of a sub-culture with being intellectually superior to others, this is not the case at all. Do you think the average MLP insane brony has 140IQ? Hell no, they just have an extremely niche interest. A lot of NEET's who spend their entire lifes watching anime and playing video-games only consume low tier slop even though they dedicate their lives to it.

>focused on assuring the BENEFITS of a larger audience (money and sexual access to Chapman. Culty lol)
eh, he also characterizes it as the only way for a subculture to escape its niche and become a true force in the broader culture ("more than just a geeky hobby")
>It mostly seems to strike this (sociopathic?) view of "MOPS" as, like, fertile soil or cattle.
in the comments, he identifies himself as a MOP in certain communities, so I think he's at least evenhanded about it

I wasn't implying this at all. I was saying the anime industry probably wouldn't be where it is today, at least in Japan, solely because of fanatics.
